Invitation to a panel discussion - AI as a game changer
17. March 2025.
**About the Event**
Artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing software development. It assists developers in code generation, automates testing, optimizes software architectures, and accelerates modernization processes. Companies face the challenge of integrating AI meaningfully to increase efficiency and innovation without sacrificing control and quality. But what does the optimal use of AI look like? Which technologies provide real value, and where are the limits?
These questions are at the heart of our event. Through keynote speeches and a subsequent panel discussion, we will explore current developments and assess specific use cases. The focus will be on AI as a sparring partner in software development, as well as innovative methods like Retrieval-Augmented Generation, which open new potentials for IT modernization.
In addition to fascinating insights into practice, the event offers opportunities for exchange and networking with experts and colleagues from the IT industry. Together, we will look into the future of AI-driven software development and discuss opportunities, risks, and best practices.
**Lecture Program**
The event is divided into four lecture slots. Between the talks, there will be time for questions and open discussions.
• **Opening the Door for AI? Scenarios for Software Developers** (Ulrich Mayring, iSYS Software GmbH)
As a software developer, you’re used to reinventing yourself every few years. However, occasionally, you might bet on the wrong horse. So, how should one approach AI? This keynote will present three scenarios in which AI could change the everyday life of tech professionals. The good news: two-thirds of these scenarios seem disruptive but can be tackled with traditional methods.
• **AI Against Hate Speech: How AI is Used to Fight Hate Speech** (Jan Vellmer, Hochschule München / IAMLIS)
How can artificial intelligence help detect and effectively combat discrimination and hate speech on social media? The startup DToxify offers AI-powered content moderation, making the web a safer place. The lecture will provide insights into the challenges, solutions, and the future of community management.
• **AI in Product Development – How AI is Changing the Work of Product Owners** (Lutz Malburg, Novatec Consulting GmbH)
In this practical talk, a broad overview will be given using ChatGPT as an example, showing how modern AI systems can support the work of product owners. The focus will be on how AI can accelerate processes, reduce workload, and lead to better results. What tasks can AI take over meaningfully? Could a powerful AI system one day completely replace the role of a product owner? These and other exciting questions will be addressed in the talk.
• **RAG in Azure: Architecture, Opportunities, and Challenges** (Patrick Thiel, doubleSlash Net-Business GmbH)
Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) combines generative AI with targeted information retrieval—a method that makes knowledge retrieval more precise. The lecture will provide insights into the architecture of RAG in Azure, using services like Cognitive Search, OpenAI, and vector databases. The advantages and disadvantages of this approach will be discussed, as well as industry-specific use cases, and the added value for research and businesses—ranging from better decision-making to IT modernization.
**Panel Discussion, Buffet & Networking**
Following the lectures, there will be a panel discussion on the question, “Man vs. Machine: Who Will Develop Our Software in the Future?”
A free buffet will be available before and during the event. There will also be an opportunity for relaxed networking.
